Micro-Event: "Research Resources Preview"

Co-Hosts: Kim T (Graduate Admission)  + Katie Thonen (Research Librarian)

Format: 30-minute virtual session, 12 noon – 12:30 pm

Target: Prospective graduate students wondering about research support and resources

Structure:

  • 5 minutes: Admissions welcome + why research resources matter for grad success
  • 20 minutes: Overview of library content
  •                 - specific databases
  •                 - advanced search techniques and research strategies
  •                 - specialized collections and archives
  •                 - research support services: consultation, citation management tools, interlibrary loan, online assistance, specific grad resources: thesis/dissertation formatting support,           research data management guidance, copyright and fair use guidance for academic work, study space in Blume, etc.
  •                 -“maybe share how librarians help students when stuck” or
  •                 - Maybe wrap up with a poll…“ask students what is their biggest research challenge? and give them solutions.
  • 5 minutes: Q&A and next steps
