Manga Swap Day!

📅 Manga Swap Schedule (Draft) 

Pre-Event Prep (1–2 weeks in advance) 

  • Promote via flyers, social media, library website, and student organizations (San Antonio King Sejong Institute, English Dept., ). 

  • Create guidelines for what can be swapped (age-appropriate content, condition requirements, limits per person). 

  • Prepare sign-in sheets, genre labels, and table signage (e.g., Shōnen, Shōjo, Seinen, Josei, Mixed/Anthologies).

10:00 – 10:30 a.m. | Check-In & Setup 

  • Attendees sign in, receive a ticket/sticker for each manga volume they bring. 

  • Volunteers help sort manga onto genre-themed tables. 

  • Light background music (anime soundtracks, lo-fi).

10:30 – 11:15 a.m. | First Browse / Swap Round 

  • Attendees can browse the tables and “shop” using their tickets. 

  • Limit: 1–2 selections per round to keep things fair.

11:15 – 11:30 a.m. | Break & Icebreaker 

  • Quick activity: “Manga Speed Recs” – 30-second recommendations where attendees pitch their favorite manga. 

  • Provide snacks (ramen cups, pocky, tea, etc. if budget allows).

11:30 – 12:15 p.m. | Second Swap Round 

  • Open browsing again, remaining tickets can be used. 

  • At this point, leftover manga not claimed can be browsed freely. 

 

12:15 – 12:45 p.m. | Mini-Panel / Discussion 

  • Short discussion led by librarian or student volunteers: 

  • “What makes a great manga?” 

  • “Best manga to start with for non-readers.” 

  • “Manga in translation vs. original Japanese editions.” 

 

12:45 – 1:00 p.m. | Closing & Wrap-Up 

  • Final free browsing of unclaimed manga. 

  • Encourage attendees to join the library’s manga/anime reading group or suggest titles for library purchase. 

  • Collect feedback via short survey (paper or QR code). 

 

Post-Event 

  • Catalog and donate leftover manga to library collection or local organizations. 

  • Share photos and highlights on library’s social media. 

  • Consider making it a recurring event (once a semester). 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

📖 Manga Swap – How to Participate 

1. Bring Manga to Swap 

  • Bring your gently used manga volumes. 

  • Accepted: Complete volumes/graphic novels in good condition. 

  • Not accepted: Damaged books (water, mold, torn pages), loose photocopies, or inappropriate content (e.g., explicit 18+ material). 

 

2. Check In 

  • At the welcome desk, you’ll receive 1 swap ticket per manga volume you bring. 

  • Tickets = the number of manga you can choose from the swap tables. 

 

3. Browse the Tables 

  • Manga will be sorted into categories (Shōnen, Shōjo, Seinen, Josei, Mixed/Other). 

  • Use your tickets to “purchase” manga from the tables. 

  • Please take only 1–2 items per round so everyone gets a fair chance. 

 

4. Swap Rounds 

  • Round 1: Exchange tickets for manga. 

  • Round 2: Exchange remaining tickets or browse freely after everyone has had a turn. 

  • Final Free-for-All: Any leftover manga can be picked up without tickets. 

 

5. Optional Activities 

  • Join the icebreaker activity: “Manga Speed Recs” – give a 30-second pitch for your favorite series. 

  • Sit in on the short discussion: “What Makes a Great Manga?” 

 

6. Wrap-Up 

  • Keep your new manga! 

  • Leave any unclaimed manga you don’t want to take back. 

  • Share your feedback with us on our event survey.

Manga Swap – Staff Instructions 

1. Setup Before the Event 

  • Arrange tables by category with clear signage: Shōnen, Shōjo, Seinen, Josei, Other/Mixed. 

  • Place a Welcome Desk near the entrance with: 

  • Sign-in sheet 

  • Swap tickets (paper slips, stickers, or tokens) 

  • Pens/markers 

  • Have extra bags or boxes available for students to carry swapped items. 

 

2. Check-In Process 

  • Greet each participant. 

  • Collect their manga contributions. 

  • Check for condition (reject damaged or 18+ explicit content). 

  • Give 1 ticket per volume accepted. 

  • Instruct the student to wait until the first round begins before browsing. 

 

3. Running the Swap Rounds 

  • Round 1: Announce browsing is open. Limit to 1–2 items per participant. Collect tickets as they are used. 

  • Round 2: Allow students to use remaining tickets. 

  • Final Round: Open the tables for free browsing of leftovers (no tickets required). 

 

4. Managing Activities (Optional) 

  • Manga Speed Recs: Invite volunteers to give quick 30-second recommendations of a favorite manga. 

  • Discussion: Facilitate or moderate a short conversation (suggested prompts provided on student handout). 

 

5. Closing & Wrap-Up 

  • Remind students to complete the feedback survey (paper forms or QR code). 

  • Box up leftover manga: 

  • Keep desirable titles for library collection review. 

  • Donate or recycle remaining materials as planned. 

  • Tidy up tables, signage, and supplies. 

 

6. Quick Tips for Staff 

  • Stay friendly and approachable—many students may be first-timers. 

  • Monitor fairness: make sure participants don’t take more items than tickets allow in early rounds. 

  • Encourage conversation and recommendations to keep the event lively.
